A Lack of Colo(u)r [Death Cab For Cutie]
Originally by Death Cab For Cutie, this is a one-mic, one-take version that stays pretty true to the live version I've been ending the set with on and off for years. Never to be properly released, but yours for a smile.

Friendly Fire
My leading track from the Ben Marwood, Jim Lockey and Oxygen Thief split EP Exclamation At Asterisk Hash, 'Friendly Fire' is a song about doing what you like, and liking what you do, and generally being a bit strong. You can probably tell all that from the first line though, right?

No Name #1 [Elliott Smith]
Recorded at the same time as the demos for debut album Outside There's A Curse, this is a long-standing live favourite. The original 'No Name #1' is available on Elliott Smith's Roman Candle.

Hold Your Breath [2010 Version]
A re-recorded version of the very first single, originally available as a split 7" single with the Heartwear Process.

Toil [alt version]
An alternative, one-man-one-guitar version of 'Toil'. The full version of this song was available on the album Outside There's A Curse.

Horatio Dies [demo version]
Based loosely upon a plot strand of Thomas Kyd's Spanish Tragedy and a favourite live. I've recorded four different versions of this song, and this version is the closest I've gotten to a decent take so far. One of the first songs to be recorded during recording sessions for the album, one day I'll record it properly and you'll be able to get it on iTunes and everything..

Claire
Taken from the record This Is Not What You Had Planned, 'Claire' is the favourite track of mine and apparently (if you listen to the last.fm stats) many others. "So, who's Claire?" is a question I answer all too regularly, so here's the scoop: I'm not telling.

The Day I Got Stuck
Part of the New Ballads of Reading Gaol project, which focused on putting music to the poetry of young offenders. I'm going to stress that I don't think that by giving people a second opportunity you should ignore the orignal crimes, but I'm of the opinion that any outlet is likely to do more good than harm. The project went on to win a Sony award.
